This bungalow was constructed circa 1905. The lot is vacant on the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map from that year, but the 1905-06 edition of the New Albany
City Directory lists George Cheatham as the resident here. Mr. Cheatham was a grocer, with his business nearby at 309 Galt Street. The house remained in the Cheatham family for a number of years, with Isaiah Cheatham – listed as a porter and later a waiter – and Maggie Cheatham both identified as the head of household through the years.
By the 1919-20
City Directory, Gordon Merrill, a mail carrier, was living here. He remained here at least until 1929.
