Torrence Eckerty purchased the lot from developer Charles H. Beck in March 1925 and this California bungalow was built a short time later. This side of Beharrell Avenue and the north side of Terrace Court were “built up” and then the terraced lawns were created. One of the restrictions that Mr. Beck attached to this plat was that the houses had to cost at least $5,500.00 when constructed.
Mr. Eckerty had a bakery at 214 East Market Street in downtown New Albany. The Eckertys only owned the property for seven years before selling it to Glenn V. Scott.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott would make their home here for over 45 years. Glenn was superintendent for the Floyd County Public Schools and retired from that position in 1949. He died in August 1973 at 91 years of age. His widow, Olive, remained in the house until taking up residency at a local nursing home in 1978. She died at the age of 90 years in April 1980.
Claude Perkins, the present owner, purchased the house in October 1978.
The property’s judgment number is 22C01-0703-MF-181. With this number you can visit the Clerk's Office in the City-County building and enter it into their computers to find the judgment owed on the property. This is public record.
